Redirects send users from one page link to another, typically the original page no longer exists or the permalink has changed. For example, if Haley Marketing changed the URL for our blog page we would need to setup a redirect from the old to direct traffic to the new page URL:
URL Redirects can be used for SEO purposes as well to help:
- Avoid 404 page errors: if a page is removed, you can redirect traffic from one page to a similar or relevant page
- Forward authority of your links that are pointing to a page that has been moved, deleted, or updated
- If a search engine has indexed your page with the original URL but it has since changed, a redirect will send users to the page they are looking for
