First Steps:
Before you can begin creating the API, you will need an account with billing setup first. (Know that none of our clients have ever been billed by Google for API Key uses that we know of, but it is a required setting in order for the feature to work successfully). You will need the following APIs enabled: Maps JavaScript API, Geocoding API, and Places API. To learn more, see Set up in Cloud Console.
Creating the API key:
The API key is a unique identifier that authenticates requests associated with your project for usage and billing purposes. You must have at least one API key associated with your project.
To create an API key:
- Go to the Google Maps Platform > Credentials page.
- On the Credentials page, click Create credentials > API key.
- The API key created dialog displays your newly created API key.
- Click Close.
- The new API key is listed on the Credentials page under API keys.
IMPORTANT: Please remember to check that the following APIs are activated for the API Key you provide: Maps JavaScript API, Geocoding API and Places API.
